JOURNAL ENTRY 5

'Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant.' from PERSUASION by Jane Austen.( page: 218

Whether man forgets sooner than woman or not is one of the most controversial issues and everyone looks at the issue from his/ her own point of view. Frequently, they make inferences based on their experiences-especially, bad ones. Actually, it is hard for me to make such a generalization even if I am influenced by people around me sometimes because there are issues to consider. First of all, I do not believe that women are always in innocent side. I know women who use their tears to manipulate men. Moreover, I am amazed when I see men who believe in them. It is possible that falling in love requires it. However, there are women who forget sooner than men. I do not know the number of them, but I do not think they are a small group. On the other hand, there are men who deceive their wifes or make harm to them. I do not mean that women are not innocent, but men are. I am just saying that both men and women may be guilty in a relationship. Secondly, we have a fixed idea: 'Men deceive and manipulate women'. I disapprove of this idea since I think that it does not have to be like this. We, as women, can change it but not by doing the same thing to them. Moreover, both sides think that the other side has already forgotten him/ her, but they disregard that it is not such an easy process for both. To sum up, I believe that forgetting sooner or later is not related to your being a man or a woman. It is about purity and endurance of your love.
