THEATRE OR CINEMA?
I went to a play called ‘Ben
Ödüyorum’ in Ankara Public Theatre last week, and I really liked it. After
seeing that play, a question came to my mind: What are the differences between
theatre and cinema or in what ways they are similar? Most of the people regard
them as the same thing. However, I think there are sharp differences between
them even though they have similar elements.
They have
three basic features in common. Firstly, both of them are based on a scenario.
In other words, not only cinema but also theatre plays have a written text
talking about the events and roles which will be depicted during the whole
play. Secondly, there is a music element in both of them. For example, you can
not see a movie or a theatre play in which music is not used. It is a common
element. Thirdly, there are worldwide cinema awards such as ‘Oscar’ to
appreciate the success of the roles of players they have played in the films.
Similarly, theatre awards are given to players who act in a play successfully.
However,
there are three significant differences between theatre and cinema. First
difference is cost. While cinema tickets are expensive, theatre tickets are
cheap. For instance, a ticket is 11 TL for a movie in a cinema. However, it is
6 TL for a play in a theatre. Second difference is one of the most crucial
ones. A movie is not live. In contrast, a play is live. In other words, players
in the theatre perform a live play in front of your eyes while you watch a film
shot two months ago by going to the cinema. Thirdly, many different places can
be used to shot many scenes in the cinema. On the other hand, there is one
stage at the theatre, and it should be used transformed into different places
according to the scene.
To sum up,
even if most people consider them the same thing, cinema and theatre are
totally different in that cost, being live or not and stage. I think although
they have similarities, their differences are more important, and I prefer
theatre to cinema because of all differences.
dear Esra this is a well written paragraph. grammar points and coherence and transitions of the paragraph are okay. the topic of the paragraph, comparing and contrasting differences and similarities between cinema and theatre, is very nice. i really enjoyed it while reading. personally, i like visiting both. because in theatre scenes you can follow real people performing the context. in cinemas too you can follow alive character and additionally you can watch some extreme action scenes and supernatural elements in cinemas since it may be difficult to perform such effects in front of the audience with the facilities of the real life. moreover, the costs of the theatre and cinema should be equal or it is quite okay for me if the theatre visit prices will be a bit higher than cinema visits'. because for me in theatre actors display hard work in front of the real audience without any pauses, while in movies actors are not in front of the real audiences and they can have a rest and time they do went during the film shoot. that is all, thanks!
